FAQ
How far ahead of my event should I submit an order inquiry?
Ideally, 4-6 weeks in advance, but definitely at least 3 weeks. A lot of planning and prep goes into making a custom decorated sugar cookies, so the more time I have the better. I also tend to book out a several weeks in advance, so the sooner you contact me the more likely we will be able to make it work. In the event that I am able to take a last minute order (less than 2 weeks between receiving your order inquiry and your requested pickup date), there will be a 20% rush fee applied to your order.
How long will my cookies stay fresh?
Your cookies will be individually heat-sealed for freshness and then packed in bakery boxes. The cookies will stay fresh in their sealed bags for up to 2 weeks and can be frozen for up to 3 months. You'll receive storage and freezing instructions in your box.
What happened to the cakes and cupcakes?
Over time, as Black Cat Baking started getting busy, I reached a point where I had to make some choices about the direction my bakery would take. So, I decided to take a step away from cakes and cupcakes and focus on custom decorated sugar cookies. I can still occasionally fit in a simple cake or cupcake order, so feel free to contact me if you'd like to make a request!
What does "home bakery" mean?
In many states, including Oregon, there are special provisions that allow certain food items to be produced in a home kitchen. Anyone involved in food preparation must be a licensed food handler and follow strict health and safety regulations. This means bakers like myself are able to run successful businesses without the overhead and logistics of a commercial kitchen. It also means there are a lot of dishes in my sink...
Are there any restrictions to what you can sell as a home baker?
A few, yes. The general rule is that a home baker may not sell any item that requires temperature control to prevent spoilage. Luckily, the products I make are considered "non-potentially hazardous", meaning they do not require refrigeration within 48 hours.
